Parents vs.Technology...

Can kids keep quiet and be polite in public places anymore without technology?

I think so...

I didn't have a game-boy, I-phone, I-Pad, or DVD player to keep me busy as a child in the mall or at restaurants, what did I do???
1. Read Books
2. Colored
3. Played with Toys and use my imagination
4. Sat quietly
5. Talk with my mom, dad, or siblings
6. Actually ATE ( there is a concept at the table)

I am not judging this Mother or saying that I will never use technology to keep my child occupied, but I feel some Childhood innocence is lost when they are using an I-Pad at 2 years old! Let's let kids be kids... play, explore, interact and leave the computers for the desk ay home... Who knows, my feelings could be thrown out the window the day Zoe throws a fit at the Mall, but I am going to try my best and stick to this feelings I have right now about this topic!

*Please share your thoughts, opinions, feelings and advice for this almost (10 weeks) first time Mother...

xoxo- Richelle

  1. I agree, I still won't even let Ally glue herself to any of it even though sometimes it would make my life easier. I think parents don't want to deal with interacting and actually parenting so they allow this stuff to babysit for them. It is tempting but it can stunt them so I vote leave it at home and keep it as a rare treat :D

  2. I totally agree with you! Then......we had Emmy. I didnt want my kid watching tv BUT when she doesn't nap longer than 20-30 minutes twice a still (at 16 months) Mickey Mouse clubhouse is my life saver!!!! I can drink my coffee or tea, go to the bathroom, wash my face, etc. If I didn't allow her some tv, I'd be a BASKET CASE with nothing done lol. And as far as going out to eat, I do use my iPad with her, it could be because she's young still but she will not sit long enough for us to order, eat, and pay a bill. And my husband and I get pretty darn tired of taking turns running her around outside while the other sits alone at a table. I agree about some things being totally out of control, BUT if your Zoe is half as active as our Emelyn is.....fasten your seat belt, hang on, and bring along an iPad ; )

  5. I completely Agree Richelle ;) i won't even let Lennon watch T.V.... i feel that it is my job to engage him and to watch him... I never want to use the television, my phone or any other device as a baby sitter... i feel that it's a major issue in out society and why kids act the way that they do... Their brains can no longer be stimulated by imagination or by reading because they are so use to sitting there and letting the technology do everything for them... Stick with what you believe when Zoe is here... no matter how hard! and it is hard! but it will be worth it... this may just be me, but i think that it makes them smarter ;) xoxo

  6. I am glad most of my mom readers are on the same page, no one said being a mother would be easy! I believe there may be times an educational show might be desperately needed to entertain your child when all other avenues have been tried and tried again. I just want to make sure I exhaust all avenues before giving into what is easy or convenient! xoxo

  7. I agree with you. Children need to be children, not zombies in front of electronic devices all day. I can't stand it when I see young children texting on cell phones at the mall or parents who use iPads or iPods just to shut their kids up in public.

There used to be a thing called parenting when I was kid. You know, where parents actually talked to their children, gave them guidance, and taught them how to interact with other human beings. But a lot of parents these days would rather take the easy way out and use an iPad or TV as a babysitter.

At least Zoe won't be raised by an iPad. She has a wonderful mom who really cares about her!
